Fake Pizza Den Outlet Busted in Marredpally: A Cautionary Trademark Case

Authorities in Hyderabad recently busted a fake Pizza Den outlet operating in Marredpally, highlighting a critical case of trademark infringement that threatens both brand reputation and consumer safety.

Trademark Infringement Uncovered

Pizza Den, a registered trademark under the Trade Marks Act, 1999 (Application No. 2554688, Certificate No. 3863451), found its brand falsely replicated by a shop in Krishnapuri Colony, West Marredpally. The illegal outlet, run by Mr. Indarkar Subash, was actively imitating Pizza Den’s identity both online via food delivery apps like Swiggy and Zomato and offline through local sales.

The Raid and Seizures

Following a formal complaint by Pizza Den’s authorized representative, V.S. Raj Kowtilya, local police conducted a raid on September 10. Officials seized counterfeit rubber stamps and pizza boxes that bore the real Pizza Den branding. More alarmingly, the fake establishment was offering outdoor catering, a service not conducted by the legitimate brand, compounding customer confusion and business harm.

Risk to Consumer Safety and Brand Integrity

Reports indicate the fake outlet used substandard and unhygienic raw materials, posing significant health risks. Satlakhiya Preetesh, the owner of the genuine Pizza Den, stated that such fraudulent misuse significantly undermines the brand’s credibility and the trust built with loyal customers. The incident demonstrates the dangers of counterfeit operations for both brand reputation and public health.

The case has been officially registered under Section 3184 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 63 of the Copyright Act. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities moving swiftly to protect trademark holders and educate the market on the importance of purchasing from verified vendors.

Why Trademark Protection Matters for Brands

  • Protects brand reputation and customer trust.
  • Guards businesses against unfair market competition.
  • Shields consumers from potential health and safety risks due to substandard goods.

Business owners must remain vigilant about their intellectual property and act quickly against infringements. Customers are encouraged to verify the authenticity of outlets before making purchases, especially via third-party platforms.

Safeguarding trademark rights is not only about protecting profits; it is about ensuring consumer confidence and safety in today’s competitive marketplace. Stay informed and make smart choices to support genuine brands.
